Postgrdauate student
Nottingham Trent University
I am currently studying towards a postgraduate diploma / professional qualification in Careers Guidance at Nottingham Trent University. This full-time, intensive course combines academic study with skill based experience. The diploma is accredited by the professional body, the Career Development Institute (CDI) and encompasses 1:1 guidance interactions, ethical practice, presentation skills, labour market information, partnership working, evidence based practice and career related learning. Work placements: The Ashfield School, Nottingham A secondary school with academy status Various days throughout the course, conducting 1:1 guidance interviews, predominantly with year 11 pupils to support the post-16 decision making process. Applying the NTU career counselling model in practice. Produced reflective reports and case studies based on interviews conducted for both formative and summative assessment. UTC, Lincoln University Technical College (14 - 18 year olds) for Science & Engineering Various days throughout the course conducting 1:1 guidance interviews, predominantly with year 12 and 13 pupils. Applying the NTU career counselling model in practice. Produced reflective reports and case studies based on interviews conducted for both formative and summative assessment. Careers Lincolnshire The leading provider of independent guidance at schools / academies in Lincolnshire. Also providing support for unemployed people. I am passionate about my professional development and upon completion of the course in July 2015 I hope to find a role in the Higher or Further Education sector and progress on to the MA in Professional Practice (a 60 credit course required to 'top up' the Diploma to a Master's Degree). I am particularly interested in post modern, constructivist approaches to career guidance and education, such as the use of career narratives and creative writing. I would love to learn more about 'alternative' / non-traditional approaches to career development and management which utilise approaches not currently used widely in the field, such as mindfulness and ACT. These are areas I may consider as a focus of research for my Masters and potentially a Phd. I am also keen to develop skills in 'cross over' fields, such as life coaching and mentoring.
