- Careers Consultant, Higher Education Professional

I started working as a Faculty Employability and Enterprise Adviser at Southampton Solent University in July 2012. My role involves working with course leaders to support them in devising strategies for embedding employability into their curriculum. This is alongside offering 1-1 careers interview appointments to current Solent students and recent graduates.
Over the past seventeen years I have worked in many schools and sixth form colleges in Southampton and Basingstoke. I started as a temporary Employment Adviser with Hampshire Careers Service in 1995 and stayed with the careers service throughout its many evolutionary changes, firstly into VT Southern Careers on to Connexions and finally with Southampton City Council. In 1997 I applied for and accepted the opportunity to train as a Careers Adviser in Basingstoke and completed the NVQ4 in Advice & Guidance before returning to work in Southampton. Building upon my skills and experiences I qualified as an A1 NVQ Assessor and Trainer working for two years helping trainee careers advisers and running staff training courses across Hampshire.
Throughout these years I have developed many skills within 1-1 careers guidance, group work, developing careers resources, careers research, organising careers events and liaising with local employers, training providers and educational institutions.
