Do you know someone who does great Careers work and deserves to be recognised? That is the only remit in Working Adviser’s new website ‘Careers Champion’. The first Careers contest launches this month – with a number of great prizes on offer to the winner. Working Adviser explains the concept and who can get involved.
What is Careers Champion?
Careers Champion is a periodical award recognising the great work done by individuals across the Careers sector. Contests will run every 2-3 months (via the Careers Champion website) with fantastic prizes for the winners and nominees. Potential Careers Champions can be nominated during the competition window and shortlisted nominees can gain votes towards winning the top prize in our finalists’ online poll.
Who is the competition open to?
The aim of Careers Champion is to cast the net far and wide. The remit for nominations is simple – people who are doing fantastic Careers work that should be recognised. This can be Higher Education Professionals; Careers writers; Consultants, Advisers and Co-ordinators; Leaders; Head of Careers and Teachers or Careers Innovators to give a few examples.
Do nominees need to be part of a body or hold certain qualifications?
No. This is not a professional body award just simply a recognition of great careers work. We would welcome nominations from qualified and non-qualified potential Careers Champions. If someone you know or work with is doing fantastic unsung Careers work then we want to hear from you. Although run by Working Adviser, there is absolutely no requirement to be a Working Adviser member to be involved.
What are the prizes on offer?
We have some fantastic prizes on offer for our winner and finalists. The first Careers Champion will receive a Custom Trophy and CC Mug, A £100 Amazon gift card, Parker Sonnet pen and Marks and Spencer Vouchers. They will also earn a place on the Careers Champions Wall. Shortlisted finalists will also each receive Amazon vouchers worth £20.
When will the Careers Champion competitions take place?
The first Careers Champion competition will take place during June/July 2015. We anticipate additional competitions every couple of months from September 2015. The aim is to find 4-6 Careers Champions each year.
How does the Careers Champion competition work?
Potential candidates are put forward via the nomination form – available during the submission period (on the nomination page). From that pool of nominations, a shortlist of six nominees will be compiled by the Working Adviser team. The six nominees for each competition will be published ahead of an online public vote. The winner will be the nominee with the most votes when the public poll finally closes. Full details on the poll opening and closing dates/times will appear on the ‘Vote Now’ page.
Why should I get involved?
Careers work is demanding and often undervalued. There are many fantastic people out there making a difference throughout this sector. This is your chance to gain recognition for someone you might know or admire.
